Our mission is to teach each other how to craft with waste and all living beings in mind. To reframe and reduce waste and enable your creativity. In order to do so we offer a kit that includes all the base materials you will need to get started on your first biomaterial project, with the tried and true recipe we provide. But our kits allow for experimentation and trial and error—we would love nothing more than for you to innovate in the material world! That’s the beauty of ephemeral design, you can begin again and again and again. In the end, you can safeguard your creation or you can return it to the earth knowing you will do no harm. Ultimately, we hope you’ll have learned about biodesign, learned to consider nature’s cycles, our impact on the world, agencies and ways of creation other than our own.

Problems and Solutions

When food waste ends up in landfills, it doesn’t just disappear—it releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas that accelerates climate change. Beyond the environmental impact, it’s a social issue too: perfectly good food is tossed while millions go hungry, and the resources used to grow, transport, and package that food—water, energy, labor—are wasted. Reducing food waste isn’t just sustainable, it’s a step toward a more just and balanced world.

Tomato Tomato offers a small but meaningful way to help address the problem of food waste by giving your scraps a second life—one rooted in creativity, curiosity, and care. Instead of sending organic matter to landfill, where it would emit harmful greenhouse gases, you're transforming it into something beautiful and intentional through the practice of crafting biomaterials. It’s not about perfection—it’s about participation. By learning to see waste as possibility, you become part of a growing movement to shift our relationship with materials, consumption, and the planet.

Our Story

Mica, Janet and Mateo met while pursuing their Masters degrees in fine arts. Propelled by their mutual love for craftsmanship and attention to detail, they collaborated on everything from public art pieces to a five-star restaurant.

In 2016, they set their sights on the world of skincare. Unhappy with the offerings of mass-produced products, they knew there had to be a better way. Within a year they launched Salt+Less with the groundbreaking Skin Creme, and quickly expanded to a full suite of skincare creations.

They now live in Brooklyn balancing life, work and dog care.
